Facebook Replacing Email

More and more people are using FaceBook rather than email to connect and it is not only the younger generation.   The platform is very colourful, user-friendly and you can do a multiple of things on one site.

Many times people when out of their office prefer to use their Facebook site, rather than log into their email.

It is now estimated that more than 30% of  today’s 500 million Facebook users are over 35 years of age. Even if we give Facebook no other information about ourselves, they insist on having our date of birth, so their age demographic would seem to be reliable.  As it becomes more and more convenient, thanks to the FB App for the smart phone, we can check our statistics and connections even before we get up in the morning.

No wonder wherever you go, everyone has a smart phone in their hands.

How To Use a Wireless Keyboard With The iPhone

The wireless keyboard can sync with your iPhone.  Blogging with your iPhone just became easier.

The other day I was reading an informative blog called “Working on the Go”.  Author Rosemary, who is obviously  deep into all things Apple Mac, reminded us that we can travel with the IPhone4 and demonstrated how to use a wireless keyboard with the iPhone to expand the phone into a notebook. I’d never thought of pairing my wireless keyboard with my iPhone.

First I had to think of a reason to want do it, but Rosemary identified it for me – if you’re caught without a computer and need to be taking notes to update your blog, this is going to do the trick.

Of course you have to just happen to have the keyboard with you. But for this kind of convenience, I could get used to carrying it.

I was sitting there reading the instructions and just happened to have a wireless keyboard in front of me with my  iPhone4 alongside it on the desk.

Following Rosemary’s instruction I did the following to set it up:

Click:  1. Settings  2.  General. 3. Bluetooth.

At first nothing happened. “Ah” I thought “thought it was too good to be true”.  But after fiddling around I realised I had to turn the keyboard off then on. I turned the iPhone off and on for good measure.

Suddenly the little wheel was whirring and telling me it was ‘searching’.  They found each other. I clicked into the “notes” section and started typing on the keyboard. Brilliant.

As you type, the script appears clearly in the yellow notes  screen section of  the iPhone.  You can write email, SMS messages and post comments.

After experimenting, it was time to return to the computer.  The keyboard wasn’t working any more with the computer. That’s how I discovered I had to return to the iPhone’s settings to turn off Bluetooth, so the keyboard would once again recognise the computer as its master.

Later I found the touch-sensitive  keyboard image had disappeared from the bottom my iPhone. I couldn’t type anything into it.  I again turned off Bluetooth. The keyboard image re-appeared on the iPhone.

Will work for Tweeting also?  I haven’t tried it. If you want to ask Rosemary yourself, visit her blog ‘Working On The Go“.  If you have any additional suggestions on how you can use this, please leave a comment below.

Business Promotion Tweets

You have a Twitter account and want to know how increase followers?

At our business centre, we use TweetDeck and Twitter for business promotion tweets to release short messages when we have offices available or if there is something that needs to be shared with our connections. Sometimes we are celebrating the success stories from our tenants and other times we are offering observations on business news.

If you are using Twitter for business promotion tweets, the idea is to get connected with as many potential clients as possible. You may have difficulty in finding people to follow and may have had no success in encouraging others follow you so far. When the business centre started, Twitter was used mostly for friends to connect with short, public messages. Things have changed. There are more business promotion tweets than personal messages in my in-box.

Businesses are now so aware of the important of this online 24/7 conversation that they are monitoring any conversation about their brand by way of ‘alerts’ set up with Twitter and Google.

Everyone is Looking for Twitter Followers

Remember school – how many friends you had was important. There is now social pressure on business people to increase their Twitter follower number in order to look sought-after or authoritative.

If your priority is to use business promotion tweets to introduce people to your website you tend to want to build your business connections universe quickly.

Responding to this public-image pressure, automated services to increase Twitter followers have sprung up to supply  people who will follow you. You don’t have to know them. They don’t have to know you.

At the business centre we would suggest this can be a waste of your time and energy – what’s the point of sending business promotion tweets to someone who is not reading or caring to hear from you. But having said that, there are many MLM business people who use huge numbers to their advantages, relying on a just small percentage of clicks to result in business for them.

iFrames Facebook Help

Facebook iFrames at the Serviced Office

When people come to your FaceBook Business page for the first time, wouldn’t it be much more welcoming to have a special “Landing Page”  for new visitors to arrive on for the first time?  You can put a photo, a video or an audio greeting.  You can invite them to LIKE your page and offer something they might appreciate in return – maybe a special offer or downloadable booklet.

Once the first-time visitor has landed on your “Landing Page” the next time they visit they will land on your ‘Wall’.  The Landing Page is used for first time visitors.  Our Landing Page is here :  SwanBizCentre (If you go there, please click the LIKE button).

How does FaceBook know this is a first-time visitor? How can you ensure the visitor lands on your Landing Page?  How do you create a Landing Page?  Can you have a series of different pages for different purposes?

The coding for a Facebook Business Landing Page  now rests on a platform called iFrames – setting it up is a little complicated – perhaps more advanced than the average business owner can cope with.  This is a good reason to contact us for website and social media help – we  can set up your Facebook Business Page, while  you spend your time on your business.
