Julia Hayes and Garry Baverstock A.M. created the Swanbourne Business Centre in early 2010 as a direct result of having difficulty finding smart office premises in the Cottesloe area.

Eco-Offices

Garry is a solar specialist architect who has designed energy-efficient commercial and residential  buildings for over 30 years. Once we found the premises, we applied his special knowledge to create healthy, fresh air, ambient light, eco-friendly offices with low energy use. The short term leases for fully fitted offices answer the needs of new entrepreneurs and successful solo-traders alike.

Hong Kong & Singapore

I worked 25 years in the Singapore and Hong Kong financial markets – including stockbroking, gold, silver and foreign exchange trading before creating my own financial services companies.

Hayes & Co. Limited (HK) and Hayes & Co. Pte.Ltd. (Singapore)  offered shelf companies and provided nominee directors and administrators for our foreign clients. The companies also offered international trade services between USA, Europe and Asia at a time when S.E. Asia was rapidly growing.  Many times our extra office spaces were made available to  visiting clients to use on a short term basis.

As  international trade agents we gained insight into the world of manufacturing, trade financing and worldwide shipping.

I learned to speak Cantonese and thoroughly enjoyed the interaction with Asian business people. Eventually my company was sold to a major financial institution.

Company Structure Experience

The combination of acting as financial administrator and trade agent for hundreds of companies with different partnership or shareholder arrangements gave me insight into the pros and cons of a wide array of organisation structures.

I left Hong Kong in 1995, moved to Sydney and invested in a decorative paint business. When this was sold I returned to Perth after an absence of 30 years to devote myself to private investing.

Swanbourne Business Centre

Never wanting to work from home due to the isolation of working alone, I opened an office in Cottesloe Chambers and that’s how the Swanbourne Business Centre came into being.

Community Activity

As an ex-President of The Rotary Club of Claremont Cottesloe I’ve been involved in fund raising since my arrival to Perth.

In August 2011 The Swanbourne Business Centre helped sponsor a benefit concert “Chords for Angels” at  The Fly by Night Musicians Club, Fremantle  to raise funds for The Royal Flying Doctor Service, The State Emergency Services and St. John Ambulance.   See http://www.chordsforangels.org.

Garry and I support BeKids, an Australian-based non-profit organisation which creates and funds progammes to help the development of children in chronically poor communities.
